"Marriage is not just a human institution; it is a cosmic reality. For true marriage is that of spirit and matter. The whole of creation arises from this union. Each atom is the fruit of the marriage of spirit (energy) and matter. When the husband and wife are separated, as in nuclear fission, this separation pulverizes everything: the husband is furious and destroys his wife. When they are united, they live in peace and they create, but when they are separated by force they produce explosions. Energy must unite with matter in order to fashion it, give it form. And as it’s always the same original model that’s reproduced exactly in a multitude of different guises throughout creation, all we see are marriages both in nature and in human societies. "

"Many activities that humans engage in can be interpreted symbolically. Take dressmaking and embroidery for example. Both involve working with cloth, a needle and thread. ‘Well,’ you’ll say. ‘What’s so interesting about that?’ For those who know how to interpret them, each of these three objects – thread, needle and cloth – corresponds to something within human beings. The thread is thought and the needle is the will, which engages thought. Plied by the will, thought carries out its work on the cloth: the physical plane. The needle and thread form pictures on the cloth that can be colourful or dull, harmonious or disharmonious, light or dark. These pictures depend upon a human being’s intelligence, will and physical matter; they tell the story of a person’s whole life."

"Although they are obviously unaware of it, many people become real enemies of humanity because of the deplorable way they live. And if you try to make them understand this, they retort, ‘But what do you mean? The way I live is my own business, I’m free, I’m only harming myself’. Well, no, the fact is, when they go out and about and come into contact with other people they darken and poison the atmosphere, and their emanations also create disorder in others. You must understand that, for evil as well as for good, there are no barriers between yourself and others. When you harm yourself you also harm the whole of humanity, for evil spreads in waves. And the same is true for good. So, when you purify yourself and when you seek light, all of humanity and even the entire universe benefit from it. Try to understand that, and you will feel you have no choice but to find the best direction for your life."

"Unity is one of the conditions of life, and it can only be achieved if humans respect an order of things in which not only does the lower submit willingly to the higher but the activities of each person converge towards a summit or a centre. This order of things is called hierarchy. This hierarchy also exists in us, from our feet up to our brain. Each of us forms a collective being, and if this being is to be harmonious and balanced all our organs must strive toward the same goal. They must work together and give their consent to the principle at the summit or centre: the spirit. Only then is unity created."

"In order to bring movement to the motionless matter of stones, God created plants. Plants are intelligent entities, but their soul floats a long, long way from them in space. So we cannot communicate with them as we do with animals, or as we do to an even greater extent with humans, who are inhabited by an individual soul. The first ray of God’s love is manifested through plants. Plants are the first to bring life to inert matter, and they speak to it like this: ‘Oh you creatures that live in stones, you have been there for billions of years, and you think you have been abandoned. But God thinks of you, and little by little you’ll get back on the path of light again. It’s a long way, but you will make it one day.’ And they continue to work on the matter of the mineral kingdom, making it more supple and moist. Then along come the animals to continue this work of refinement. And then humans… This is how matter is enlivened, enriched and illuminated."

"Earth, water, air and fire, the four elements that constitute the matter of creation, are also a form of nourishment for us. Each day, we take solid and liquid food, and the air we breathe is also food for us. As for the element of fire, it is contained in these different forms of nourishment, but it is also found in sunlight. All creatures benefit from the sun’s light, but most often unconsciously. If they did so consciously, they would find it a source of extraordinary wealth, for that is where our true nourishment lies. Eating and breathing bring us life. But when we concentrate on the light of the rising sun, our soul and spirit are nourished by fire and light, and that’s when we feel truly alive."

"The French use the expression ‘to make love’, but whoever invented it wasn’t all that inspired. For no one can ‘make’ love. Love is a current of forces, way beyond us; we are not masters of these forces, still less their creators. Love is a power, a principle that comes from God himself. It’s an energy, and when we love it’s this energy we allow to pass through us. But as humans rarely know how to love, this energy does not pass through them harmoniously. So they say they ‘make love’, by which they mean they assume certain positions, make certain gestures and say particular words… but is that love? It’s doubtful."

"The universe forms an immense unity in which everything is linked. So every physical object corresponds to something on the subtle planes, particularly on the astral plane. Mages base their activity on this law: they link a certain object with its corresponding current of forces; the object is used as an aid to mobilizing these forces. An object made of beautiful material, with harmonious lines and beautiful colours, corresponds to something beneficial and life-giving on the subtle planes. Thanks to these forces, which are also represented by the divine virtues, you can use such an object to stir up the higher layers of the astral plane. While you are concentrating on these virtues and reinforcing their presence within you, this object allows you to contact beneficial forces, which will rain down on you and those around you."

"How many spiritualists abandon their work when they find they don’t get immediate results! It’s not that the teaching they received is unsound, however, or that they have been given ineffective methods; it’s that they haven’t known how to proceed correctly. And above all, they are in a hurry, because they are lazy and very soon tire of making any effort. They’ve been living under the illusion that there are ways of overcoming difficulties quickly. Well, it’s not the case! Of course, that’s how it happens a bit with medicine: you take some tablets, have a few injections, and there you are, back on your feet. Unfortunately, spiritual work is completely different: there are no tablets, no injections there; you have to undertake a lengthy work on the matter of your own being. You must cook it, knead it and fashion it. And anyone who claims to be able to reveal secrets that will transform you and your life in a short space of time is a charlatan. It is possible to receive the sudden revelation of a truth or of a new direction to take, but afterwards you must work and work. It is an enterprise that never ends."

"The archangel Uriel presides over summer, the season of maturity. Uriel is fire, warmth and flame. The trees have already been in flower for a long time, and these flowers must produce fruit. But what is a flower? It is the organ of the plant that’s closest to the animal kingdom. This animal-like part of the plant possesses sensibility and something similar to a nervous system: it opens to the light and closes in the dark. We could go even further and say the plant’s astral body is formed within the flower. In fact, the flower is the plant’s sexual organ, where fertilization takes place. So, the archangel Uriel works with warmth to enable flowers to produce fruit."

"Before a building can be said to exist, it has to be built; we must be able to see it. But really, its true creator is the architect, the person who drew up the plans for it. Even if the building is not yet visible and tangible, it’s already been created in someone’s head. Now all that remains is to build it, in other words to bring it into form with the use of different materials. Formation is always preceded by creation, which takes place high above in the world of ideas, sometimes instantaneously. God created the world in an instant. It was the formation that took time; with formation time appeared. That is why we speak of the six days of creation. These six days are symbolic, of course; they represent the time it took for formation. Creation is instantaneous; it belongs to eternity."
