"There are role models and there are role models. Some people get themselves noticed because they stand out or are successful in a certain area, and then lots of other people immediately want to imitate them. But if their superiority derives from their money, possessions or social standing, they are not good role models. Why not? Because they will be leading people along a path where they are constantly driven to dominate others, to undermine or humiliate them. Whereas those who are characterized by their spiritual qualities of kindness, wisdom, self-control, nobility, generosity, purity and selflessness are good role models, for they help others walk along the right path and find true happiness. All humans need role models, not models of material and social success but ones that make them aware of their true wealth, the riches of their heart, soul and spirit."

After an orange cloud —
formed as a result of a
dust storm over the
Sahara and caught up
by air currents —
reached the Philippines
and settled there with
rain, I understood that
we are all sailing in the
same boat.

"When Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world’, he was identifying with the sun. Who is the light of the world, in effect, if it isn’t the sun? The sun is the visible, dazzling image of the Divinity. When you identify with light it means you recognize you are not just your physical appearance but you possess another nature. You know you are made of a spiritual quintessence, and you decide to let it take your place. For Jesus to have been able to say, ‘I am the light of the world’ and to have found this light within himself and risen to its level, he must have succeeded in identifying with the spiritual sun: the Christ. And that is true love, the irresistible force which impels humans to seek what is most pure and most divine within themselves and, once they have found it, to become one with its reality. Yes, love is attraction; it arises from the spark God has placed within the soul of human beings, because of which they experience the need to find him again and become one with him."

"Human relationships are very complicated things, whether they are with members of your family, friends, colleagues from work and so on, or even with people you don’t know. If you wish to maintain harmony and mutual understanding, you must forget yourself a little; try not to always put forward your own points of view and tastes, but demonstrate understanding, tolerance and patience. It is a sacrifice, but sacrifice is a force; yes, this is the great idea you must bow to. Of course, there’s something in you that resists: sacrifice implies limitation and loss. But you must understand it’s your lower nature that retaliates, whereas your higher nature rejoices. Stop bringing everything back to yourself, to your opinions, your feelings and desires. Concentrate on a noble, luminous ideal, for this will swallow up the thousand difficulties you encounter every day in your relationships with others. You will no longer even see these difficulties, and even if you do they will no longer affect you."

"Imagine a young musician playing a new piece from sight. If he doesn’t pay great attention, he will make a few mistakes, and once these have been made they will be imprinted in him as stereotypes: if he is not very careful he will make the same mistakes in the same places even twenty or thirty years later, even when he knows the piece by heart, and it will take a great deal of time and effort to correct them! That is why, when a musician is sight-reading a new piece, he must take all the time he needs to create perfect stereotypes. One day he will even be able to eat and sleep while he plays and not make a single mistake, because everything will be imprinted perfectly in his subconscious. What is true for music is equally true for many other activities in life. When you begin with great care and wisdom you avoid making mistakes, and you therefore save time, energy and effort."

"Love the Creator, the One who is the origin of all life, and you will feel him manifesting in every creature. It is he, the One, whom you will love in others, and only he can fulfil the longings of your heart and soul. So many men and women, famous throughout history for their amorous adventures and conquests, have had tragic destinies precisely because they did not understand this truth. The beings of flesh and blood you claim to love or to be looking for are only intermediaries, conductors meant to transmit divine energies. If you wish to continue to love them, think of restoring contact every day with the world above. You don’t need to worry about who you will love or who you wish to be loved by. First love God and he will appear to you; he will smile at you and fill you with joy through his creatures. You will love them and be loved by them, because it will be the Deity dwelling within them that you will love, and they will also discover him through you."

"Why is it so important to form spiritual communities? I will give you an image: engineers build immense power stations capable of supplying energy to entire regions. Well, a spiritual group can be compared to a power station: it is able to provide the energy needed to project light far into space. For human minds are veritable batteries. They simply need to be united and put in contact with a divine idea; the currents they project will be received by vast numbers of other minds in the world, and these people will also decide to work for a divine idea. You pray, meditate and sing together, but you are not yet aware of the immense possibilities these activities offer for the good of all humanity. It is time to become conscious of it and do this work, so that the light of the kingdom of God can be received by the greatest possible number of minds on earth."

"Freedom is not found on the physical plane. Freedom is found on the atmic plane, which is the world of the spirit. So in order to be free we must identify with our spirit. The more we achieve this identification, the more we strengthen ourselves and escape the conditions around us. Figuratively speaking, we could say identifying with the spirit is like climbing above the clouds. Those who stay below the clouds are always dependent: they must wait until the clouds decide to clear before they can see the sun, and while they’re waiting they’re exposed to darkness, cold, fog and rain. As they don’t realize they’re responsible for this situation themselves, they complain, ‘The sun is hidden’. But the sun is not hidden; they themselves have allowed clouds, in the form of their dark thoughts and feelings, to come between the sun and their soul. They only need to disperse these clouds or project themselves above them and they will immediately have light, and what freedom they will feel once they have light! "

"Cosmic Intelligence hasn’t sent us to earth for us to think only of leaving it once we’ve arrived, under the pretext that heaven is our true homeland. The desire to abandon earth for heaven is just as harmful to our physical and psychological health as the desire to abandon heaven for earth. Some people, once they have decided to pray and meditate, run the risk of giving way to laziness or even mental confusion, for they come to the point where they can no longer distinguish between what’s real and what’s imaginary. That should be avoided at all costs. Even moments of ecstasy, which are the most desirable states for a mystic, are very detrimental to health if they are not experienced in moderation, with caution and wisdom. It is said that God is a devouring fire, and the physical body is not built to endure this fire for any length of time."

"The reason humans commit so many errors of judgement, make so many mistakes and experience so much suffering is that they don’t know what they have come to earth to do. They come, and then they go. Where do they come from, and where do they go back to? They don’t know. But there is only one answer to both these questions: God. We have left God, and one day we will return to God. Which paths will we take, during the course of our many incarnations, before we return to the Source? That depends on us. God has planned an extraordinary destiny for humans. We occasionally receive a fleeting glimpse of it, and we must cling to these visions with all our might. Everything that happens to us on our return path represents stages of the journey. These stages must never erase from our memory the vision of what we will finally become when we return to the bosom of the Eternal, with all our experiences and all the qualities and virtues acquired and developed along the way. "

"Instead of giving free rein to your lower nature by constantly challenging others and arguing with them over everything and nothing, try learning to argue with all the dark entities that live inside you. These entities, which have been plaguing you for many incarnations, have finally become embedded in you in the form of bad habits, and you must persuade them to keep quiet. At the same time, call upon your higher nature, which manifests through all the wise and enlightened entities also living within you. Let them speak, and accept their good suggestions, for these will be useful to you and to others. How many people say they want to be useful to others! But good feelings and intentions are not enough. Those who wish to help others must become conductors of divine life, and for that they must rid themselves of everything that may attract dark forces."
