"So many people are proud of rejecting all authority and claim they don’t need anybody’s advice or guidance in life. Well, they’re mistaken we all need guides. If we really want to blossom, if we really want salvation, we need to understand how important it is to be guided by the great minds who have lived, or still live, on the earth. These beings, who have studied, who have experienced so much more than we have, who know life so much better, who have solved so many problems before us, are like living books communicating to us the knowledge they possess. We live, we act, we think, but thanks to them something else is added to our own experiences, something higher and richer than us that helps us."

" ‘By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken.’ These are the words in Genesis that God addresses to Adam after the fall. But now a new light is entering the world to return meaning to all human activity, and that light conveys a different understanding of the word ‘work’. Whether your pursuits are intellectual, artistic or physical, or even if you’re just resting or going for a walk, you should avoid anything that might resemble stagnation and create within yourself a state of ordered and harmonious activity. True work consists in bringing all inner and outer currents and energies into harmony, so they converge towards the Source of life, the prime Cause. The disciple must see ‘work’ solely from this point of view."

WORD FOR THE DAY Thursday, Oct. 29 |
|
You simply will not be the same
person two months from now
after consciously giving thanks
each day for the abundance that
exists in your life. And you will
have set in motion an ancient
spiritual law: the more you have
and are grateful for, the more
will be given you. |

"Sometimes you meet quite ordinary people who claim to be entrusted with some grand mission. They don’t possess any special ability or gift, but they are convinced heaven has chosen them to put the world back to rights or bring about a new religion. You wonder what put such ideas into their head. Of course, we were all given a mission when we came to earth. But it remains for us to find out what it is. ‘What mission?’ you’ll ask. To develop all the seeds of qualities and virtues heaven has deposited within us. And this is quite a task in itself! How long will it be, how many centuries, how many thousands of years, before we succeed in uncovering and bringing forth all the riches we carry within us! Now, heaven may well choose a being for some particular mission. But the collective mission for humans is to develop little by little until they reach perfection. However puny and unimpressive they may be, they do have a mission to fulfil: to work, to better themselves and to evolve."

"Unlike proud people, who tend to retreat into disdainful aloofness, vain people make themselves known everywhere; they need to be noticed, sought after, invited, photographed and praised. And even if they realize their weakness costs them a great deal (in wasted time or money), it is very difficult for them to rise above it. Their need for recognition, for fame, gets the better of them every time and leads them into all kinds of pointless, even harmful, expenditure. So, what is the answer? It’s natural to want recognition or fame, but this need should be directed elsewhere: instead of wishing for glory on earth, among human beings, seek glory in heaven, among the angels and archangels. Those who replace earthly glory with divine glory are on the road to salvation; their vanity leads them to heaven! Once you have understood it is heaven you should be trying to please by working on yourself, then not only is vanity allowed, it is even recommended."

"There are difficult situations in life, where you feel that one wrong move, one word, one intervention, one ill-considered gesture could prove fatal for you. So, when you find yourself in such a situation, first of all avoid acting hastily; quieten yourself, and connect with the spirit to allow it to take control of your thinking. Your thoughts will control your emotions and feelings, which in turn will control your gestures, your voice and your words. This will enable you to find the right attitude, the right responses. Whatever the circumstances, your instinctive reflex must be to connect to the spirit first. It’s like plugging yourself in; you place your being under the control of the spirit, and step by step everything becomes organized and falls into place. Then you can act in a balanced, harmonious way, and you have won the battle, you are saved."

"Human beings came from God, they originate from God, so it is God that acts and works through them. And since they originate from God, one day they will go back to him; they will cease to exist as personal entities and merge with God. Of course, many will reject this idea, either because it appears absurd to them, or because they find it an unacceptable blow to their individual freedom. But whether they like it or not, that is the reality. One day, human beings will return to God. So, instead of wasting your time on futile pursuits, on mulling over your worries, grievances and so on, think as often as you can of the divine soul that is you, though it’s not yet quite you, because you don’t know how to be one with it. By repeating this exercise frequently, you will feel little by little that you are discovering your true predestination."

"Someone has said or done something that annoys you, and there you are telling all and sundry how furious you are and why. They try to calm you down by telling you it’s not that serious and you’d do better to drop the matter and think about something else, but no, you go on making a fuss, shouting, ‘That idiot, that moron, I’ll show them a thing or two’. Is that intelligent behaviour? Meanwhile, the idiot, the moron, is at home, undisturbed, well away from your ranting and raving. So, who has to put up with your anger? Those around you, your parents, your friends, who haven’t deserved to have their lives disturbed in this way. But the one to suffer most is you. Yes, the currents of your psychic life pass through you first, before they reach other people. Those who decide to live in harmony are the first to benefit from that harmony, and those who allow themselves to get carried away by anger or the desire for revenge destroy themselves first. They may destroy others also in the end, but it’s themselves they harm most. For the disturbance they have created in themselves will follow them into their next incarnation."

"Parents and teachers who are seriously concerned about young people’s futures must understand that providing them with training so they can become an electronics engineer, a chemist or a biologist is not enough; they must prepare them to face life in the best way possible. If adolescents are not told about the difficulties they are bound to encounter later in the outside world and, above all, in themselves, if they are not told how to view these difficulties or what the right attitude is for solving them, they will founder at the slightest setback. Let’s take a very simple example. What will happen to someone who knows nothing of the changing seasons, who doesn’t know that one day winter and cold weather will come?... If, on the other hand, they are informed, they will have fuel, clothing and a food supply ready and will go through winter untroubled. Well, the majority of young people rush into life as if unaware that winter must come."

"During the course of history, human beings have experimented endlessly, with varying degrees of success, to try and find the best form of government. Is it monarchy, the republic, oligarchy, synarchy?… Actually, there is no ideal solution: whatever form government may take, order, peace and harmony will never prevail until human beings learn to establish order, peace and harmony within themselves. And for this ideal state to be achieved, they must first understand the structure of the human psyche. Human beings have a mind, a heart and a will. They use the mind for thinking, the heart for feeling and the will for action. These three factors are the means by which they manifest themselves on earth. When they succeed in establishing wisdom in their minds, love in their hearts and power in their will, they achieve a trinity within themselves that resembles the divine Trinity of light, warmth and life. This is how they have dominion over their own existence. And then, it doesn’t matter what form of government is in place. If we want to establish order, peace and harmony in the world, we have to begin at the beginning, that is, with human beings themselves, once they have become the head, the king, of their own kingdom."

"On the plains below, dust and mists so often prevent you from seeing things clearly! But if you leave the plains for the peaks, everything becomes clear. These phenomena of the physical plane have their equivalent on the psychic plane. Symbolically, dust stands for the scheming of the common mind, busy with its self-interest, its wheeling and dealing and shady business. As for the mist, this stands for murky feelings and over-sensitivity. It is the lower mental plane that produces dust, and the lower astral plane with its turmoil that produces clouds and mists; in neither case is it possible to see clearly. This is why disciples must, through meditation, prayer and contemplation, seek to free themselves from the regions of dust and mists and finally break through into the light."

"Artists (painters, musicians, poets, dancers, and so on) are at pains to find new forms of expression. Repeating what others have done before them is out of the question. But do they ask themselves whether the search for novelty at all costs may not be taking them further and further away from the source of beauty and harmony? For it is always easier for them to find novelty by sinking into the lower realms of the astral plane than by making the effort to lift themselves up to the peaks of true inspiration. So many so-called artists don’t even know what art is! They have no skill; they merely give way to instinct, to the impulse to create. Of course, you can create, whatever direction you take, good or bad. When you move away from the Source, from the spiritual sun, you can still find new forms, new perspectives. But those new forms and perspectives often belong to a world of darkness, disorder and chaos: they begin by destroying the ‘artists’ who have ventured there, and they have nothing of worth to offer the public who become acquainted with these works."
